Job Title: Campaigns Organiser 

Salary:  £24,000 - £25,000 (37.5hrs per week)

Pension Contribution: 3% employer contribution

Length of Contract: 12 months (with an option to extend)

Contract: The post is for a fixed term of 12 months with the possibility of renewal for a further term, dependent on funding. The post will be accountable to the Executive of the North Cotswolds and Tewkesbury Local Party.  Day to day supervision will be by a Regional Campaigns Manager. 

Hours: 37.5 hrs/week. Some hours maybe unsocial and it is expected that the Campaigns Organiser will work to assist some evening and weekend campaign. 

Transport: Travel expenses will be paid for pre-agreed expenditure. 

The Context: North Cotswolds & Tewkesbury Liberal Democrats are offering an exciting opportunity. This will be a chance to gain skills and knowledge in political campaigning. This opportunity builds on the recent election of a Lib Dem MP for Tewkesbury and seeks to develop political campaigning across our two new constituencies. 

The major functions of the job are:  To support the work of the Liberal Democrats in the North Cotswolds and the Tewkesbury constituencies in order that:-  

  • The local parties’ membership and volunteer base grows and thrives. Deliver winning campaigns that increase the number of Liberal Democrats elected to Gloucestershire County Council in May 2025. The local party’s  capacity to fight elections, including District/Borough elections  is increased.
  • We retain our seat  in Tewkesbury, and gain the seat  in North Cotswolds in the next parliamentary election.  

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Build a team of campaigners and volunteers to win seats in the 2025 County Elections  and create a base for future local and national elections.
  2. Organise volunteers, local party workers and supporters to deliver a campaign plan by :
  3. Recruiting, training, managing and mobilising volunteers;
  4. Leading volunteer teams on campaigning activities (doorstep, on-line, telephone and delivery);
  5. To ensure the delivery of a programme of doorstep, and telephone voter contact.
  6. To contribute to the production of literature as per the local party literature plan across the constituency.
  7. Build and develop digital campaigning capacity alongside key volunteers.
  8. Develop a database of volunteers and supporters taking into account confidentiality and data protection rules.
  9. Ensure canvass data is collated and analysed, using party software such as Connect and Minivan.
  10. To liaise if appropriate with staff and officers of the Regional Party (Western Counties) and local council groups .
  11. To assist fundraising groups to a limited extent as allowed by other duties. 

In addition the campaigns organiser will comply with general duties including 

  • Adhere to all safety and fire regulations and cooperate with the local party to uphold good standards of health and safety;
  • Uphold ethical and professional standards and not behave in a manner that is likely to bring the party into disrepute;
  • Promote and sustain a responsible attitude towards equal opportunities and diversity within the party; and
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing learning and development and participate in training relevant to the role. 

Person Specification  

Essential 

  • Sympathetic with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats
  • Demonstrable track record of leadership and team work
  • The ability to communicate effectively with, and to maintain the confidence of, a variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrable ‘can-do’ attitude
  • The ability to work well under pressure; demonstrating resilience
  • The ability to delegate
  • The ability to work unsupervised and to effectively prioritise from a variety of tasks
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • Good written and oral communication skills with attention to detail
  • Full UK driving licence  and use of a vehicle 

Desirable

  • Campaign development / coordination experience
  • Knowledge of the local area, its politics and local communities.  
  • Good digital and social media skills; the ability to update websites
  • Experience of Liberal Democrat software and databases
  • The ability to work with local media and generate positive coverage for the party.
