Call for improvements to local Maternity Services

9 Oct 2024

In July 2024 you gave me a platform, as did millions of voters nationwide, who collectively elected 72 Liberal Democrat MPs.

This afternoon, several of us used our platform to debate Gloucestershire Maternity Services.

I spoke of my own experience of becoming a father, and of the fact that many parents do not receive the quality of care that my family did.

I spoke of the national challenges impacting local maternity services, as well as the impact of the CQC inspection on Gloucestershire.

I stated that our collective ambition must be to maintain permanent delivery units at Cheltenham and Stroud.

Finally, I urged the government to stay true to its pledge to train thousands more midwives, with a funded plan to do so in the Autumn Budget.

I thank my Honourable Friend the Member of Parliament for Cheltenham for hosting the debate.
